Welcome back to Term 2!

Liz Hooper

Welcome also to members who have begun classes this term.  To date, over 1,600 members have returned from last year, and around 220 new members have joined.  This is an extremely healthy number.  We hope that you will all enjoy your experience in our fabulous environment.

A highlight of the last month was the Information Session that we ran for around 60 of our Reception Desk Volunteers who kindly gave up an afternoon during the break to receive this update.  It was wonderful to see so many people gathered together (properly distanced of course) in Studios 1 and 2 for up-to-date information from Judith Palmer, Reception Desk Volunteer Coordinator; Elsie Mutton, Course Administrator; and Treasurer, Pauline Wang.  After the session, many stayed back to enjoy a coffee, health bar, and one another’s company.

I continue to receive many positive comments from Council staff regarding the neat and tidy condition of the U3A Reception Desk.  Thank you to Reception Desk Volunteers and to Duty Committee Members who maintain the work area to such a high standard.  Keep up the good work!

During the break, Committee of Management members Lindsay Glen, Elsie, Andrew Gee and myself met with Council staff to discuss a few unresolved issues related to the new Hub.  Council staff took our concerns very seriously and over this next term you will see some of their responses in action.  Whiteboards and clocks will be installed in all rooms by the end of the term.  Modifications are also being made to the AV pits in Studios 1 and 2 and in Meeting Rooms 4 and 5 to make them safer and easier to use.  Keep your eyes open to potential changes to traffic flow in the Esdale Street car park.
