President’s Message

Liz Hooper

I am delighted to announce that Bert Lopes has been recognised for his outstanding work at U3A Nunawading over a period of years with a 2021 Chisholm Community Award.

Bert Lopes

Bert joined U3A Nunawading in 2013 and became a vital member of our Support Team, which provides assistance to Class Leaders and members with their preparation of audio-visual content to ensure that it will be compatible with our in-house technology.

Bert also made a significant contribution to our physical relocation from our Silver Grove headquarters and the installation and configuration of our IT network and equipment at the Nunawading Community Hub. During his time Bert has provided valuable input to procuring our IT and telecommunication equipment upgrades.

Congratulations, Bert, on a very well deserved award.

Nearing the end of lockdown

We are all eagerly awaiting news of when we can return to the Hub. Victoria’s vaccination rate is increasing at a rapid pace and hopefully we will soon be able to return to face-to-face activities – under COVID restrictions of course.

It is currently anticipated that we will reach 80% double vaccination by 5 November. The state roadmap for Community Facilities specifies: “fully vaccinated indoors, DQ4 and 150 cap” and as soon as we hear from Whitehorse Council about when we can return to the Hub and under what conditions, we will advise you immediately.

Re-enrolment for next year

Enrolment for 2022 will open online for current members at 9am on Monday 29 November. You will be able to view information about Summer School and regular classes on our website from 15 November, but you won’t be able to enrol till 9am on 29 November. See Enrolment article for all key dates.

Summer School is just around the corner and Convenor, Valerie Donlon, has a bumper one planned with lots of innovative classes! Something to look forward to in 2022.

Finally, many thanks to all the Leaders who offered classes as part of Whitehorse Seniors Festival: it offered some cheer during this lockdown.

Stay safe and stay positive and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Liz Hooper (President, on behalf of the Committee of Management)
