Learn how to enrol online – or refresh your memory. See details in this article.

Welcome to Term 4! There are only seven weeks in this term, and we hope you can continue to attend and enjoy all that you are enrolled in. In this article there are some pointers to places where basic English skills are taught – if you know someone who needs this help, let them know.

Also, there are three offers to play tennis in Nunawading as well as a reminder to make sure you enjoy our Christmas workshops to finish off the 2025 year. And if you’d like some help getting ready to enrol, note our ’How to enrol online’ classes.

Cup Eve classes

A reminder U3A Nunawading will NOT be closing classes on Cup Eve Monday 3 November. If you are going to be away on this day, please mark it with an A on the attendance sheet.

Nunawading Tennis Club

Are you interested in starting or returning to play tennis or hiring a tennis court. Here are some options for you from the Nunawading Tennis Club:

1. For people who have some tennis experience

The tennis club currently runs two-hour social tennis for members three times a week: 9:30 am Monday, 7:30 pm Tuesday and 9:30 am Sunday. It is likely that an extra session at 9:30 am Friday will be offered soon. Courts are booked, balls are supplied and players supply their own racquet. The tennis club invites non-members (so this would apply to U3A members) to participate in the social games and provide three sessions for free. If non-members want to continue, they are encouraged to join the tennis club.

2. For people who have no tennis experience but would like to try

On Mondays at 9:30 am – the same time as the Monday social session – the tennis club is offering a one-hour supervised session for U3A members to try out tennis. The club can offer racquets, balls and a supervisor, and runs this as a free session for a whole term. If you are interested in this option, the Leader will discuss with the coaching group providing professional tuition for this program rather than just supervision.

3. Just for U3A members – court hire

U3A members can make a block booking of the courts for two hours – up to four courts at an agreed time or times during weekdays (must be before 4 pm) to play tennis. U3A members would need to bring racquets, but the club can supply balls. The club charges a 50% discount on normal hire rate for the block booking – which is $20/hour for each court.

If you are interested in any of the above. Send an email to with details of the proposal you are interested in.

English language support

For members who have very little or no English language skills, we recommend they attend one of these two programs to help them to learn and be able to converse with their English-speaking friends:

  • AMEP (Adult Migrant English Program)
This is a free service to help eligible migrants with low levels of English language skills to settle into Australia. There are multiple venues, and AMEP Box Hill is located at:
    Level 3, Building B7
    465 Elgar Road
    Box Hill 3128
    Phone: 03 8892 1223
    Email:
    SMS: +61 429 838 674 (any language)
    Website: boxhill.edu.au/services/amep/
  • Louise Multicultural Community Centre (LMCC) has been serving the local community for over four decades. One of the key areas they support is English language learning, and they assist people who wish to learn or strengthen their English language learning. At LMCC, they offer three levels of English classes – Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Students are assessed to ensure they join the class most suited to their ability, which helps them build confidence and make steady progress. In addition to language learning, their classes provide opportunities for social connection, cultural exchange, and greater community participation.
