January’s Summer School was highly anticipated after a Covid 2020 year and the excitement of having our new Community Hub building as the venue. Both Class Leaders and participants were impressed by the new surroundings. This year we had approximately 325 enrolments in Summer School. For the past three years enrolments have averaged around 375 […]

Safer Internet Day 2021

2020 showed us just how important it can be to have online skills and so many of us joined in – some enthusiastically, others perhaps a bit concerned about safety.

Each year on Safer Internet Day the world comes together with a shared vision of making online experiences better for everyone.

So begins another year! I hope that 2021 will be easier than last year for all of us.

One piece of good news is that the new Nunawading Community Hub has been officially open to the public since 6 January.

It is certainly an amazing building with lots of lovely natural light and space – so different from our previous accommodation! We have ample storage space for our equipment, which is more than we had anticipated. It is going to be a pleasure to be in such a lovely environment.

Finally, after a long wait, the new Nunawading Community Hub is opening in January! On Tuesday 8 December half of our Committee of Management had their first official tour of the new Hub, and on Thursday 10 December, we began moving in. Pictured here are some of the Committee taking a well-earned break from unpacking.

Due to Covid restrictions numbers allowed into the Hub at present are strictly limited and you cannot enter without an appointment. The first opportunity U3A members will have of visiting the Hub will be when they attend Summer School classes.

2021 Classes are now visible on our website

You can now see the classes we are offering in 2021 on the Courses and Timetable pages.

The information about our classes is based on NO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS being in place at the time the class is being offered. Changes to times and venues may need to be made by 21 January 2021, when enrolments open and Covid-19 restrictions for Term 1 are known. The main alterations will relate to social distancing and the number of members who will be able to participate in a particular class.

Our Lockdown Stories

In Update #10, we asked members to tell us about how they managed to get through this most ‘unusual year’ so that we could produce a special edition newsletter.

Unfortunately, we only received two submissions by the published deadline. So, instead of producing a separate newsletter, we include the stories from Bev Clarke about creating a family cookbook and June MacDonald about an act of kindness that spurred her into action, here.

However, after some prompting by various Class Leaders, we did receive some late entries, which we plan to publish in the new year.
