President’s Report

Spring is here and it’s a busy time for us all. The Positive Ageing Festival runs through October and U3A members were active at the opening and the Spring Festival. Now these are over, it’s time to think about next year, particularly enrolments and details of the enrolment process for 2024 are in this newsletter.

Key information for 2024 enrolments

These are the key dates you need to know for next year’s enrolment:

– You will be able to VIEW next year’s courses online from Monday 13 November
– Printed copies of the 2024 Course Guide, including Terms 1 and 2 Computer Classes and 2024 Summer School Guide, will be available for collection from the Hub from Monday 13 November
– Enrolment for current members opens on Monday 27 November
– Enrolment for new members opens on Wednesday 29 November.

Summer School reminder

Keep your eyes open for our 2024 Summer School which will be quite different from “normal” classes run throughout the year, with special offerings from both regular class leaders and guest leaders.

In 2024, our format will also be a little different from previous years, with four days of classes and workshops at the Hub followed by five exciting excursions in the following week.

Summer School is also taking place later in the summer break, meaning there is less of a gap between Summer School and the start of Term 1.

In the audience for an ABC Q+A program

On Monday 25 September, 11 members of U3A Nunawading, some other local residents and a group of students from Wantirna College ventured to the ABC Southbank studios. We had been invited to be part of the audience for the Q+A program. It was a fascinating experience to see how a live TV program goes to air with all the organisation, personnel, and equipment that makes it possible.

Christmas shopping, Black Friday and Amazon Prime days – at this time of year there are lots of reasons to expect a parcel. The scammers know this, and send more scam emails and texts. You haven’t been hacked, nor has Australia Post – it’s just the scammers relying on coincidence.

Positive Ageing Festival in pictures

The Seniors Festival, now renamed the Positive Ageing Festival, was launched at Whitehorse Council’s new performing arts centre called The Round. Since it was newly opened, our Choir, Cantonese Opera, Greek Dancing and Line Dancing were fortunate to showcase their skills at their state-of-the-art Auditorium and the versatile Studio.
