Why I love teaching science at U3A

I became a school physics teacher by a combination of practical necessity and default. In my first two years teaching in a girls’ school, I discovered that even students who chose physics found it incomprehensible, and colleagues with a background in other sciences hated teaching it for the same reason.

Table Tennis players have a ball

In 2021, COVID-19 spoiled many things, but it didn’t stop the enjoyment and unbridled enthusiasm of the Table Tennis class when we got going again, and 2022 is set to be even better.

Thanks to the commitment of our members who came back to play after numerous lockdowns, we had a great time. Our end of year celebrations showcased our team spirit with everyone contributing to a feast of multi-cultural snacks and an unexpected guest in a red suit even dropped by for some festive fun.

This year’s Summer School, which ended last week, provided a record number of lectures and activities for members over the long summer break. From making baskets out of used plastic to making digital photo albums, there was something for everyone.

From boot camp to ikebana, from shaking a tambourine to embroidering in a hoop, the Hub was alive with activity over the six days.
