Welcome to Term 2. In this issue, I am calling for members to nominate for the Committee of Management for 26/27; taking National Volunteer Week as an opportunity to thank all the wonderful volunteers who make our U3A such a wonderful place; and passing on Parking Regulation Advice from Whitehorse City Council for you to note carefully.
While our current membership system, UMAS, is still serving us well at present, we are planning to move to a new system – Member Wizard – on 1 July. This new system has been taken up by 23 Victorian U3As, supported by U3A Network Victoria, with another 30 U3As planning to convert this year.
The project to migrate our membership system to the new Member Wizard application is well underway with the new system to be ready before the start of Term 3. Your current membership details including your membership number and class enrolments will be migrated to the new system ready for you by early July.
Welcome to Term 2. In this newsletter you will find some new classes that have commenced in Term 2 and still have space, and new classes commencing in Term 3 that are now open for enrolment. There is also news about the recently installed Seniors Exercise equipment and the upcoming Biggest Morning Tea with three wonderful quilts being raffled.
The Australian Ballet School returns to The Round on 5 August 2026 with a dazzling new program. Experience the energy and artistry of Australia’s finest young dancers in a vibrant mix of classical and contemporary works of ballet. We celebrated Harmony Day on 20 March 2026 with engaging presentations and a wide range of cultural foods to share. Thanks to Paulina Chong, Kim Tu, Yip Soo and the Social Committee for making the day such a success.
On Sunday 22 March, the historic Strathdon House and Orchard Precinct came alive as part of Whitehorse Council’s 2026 Culture Fest celebration, drawing a vibrant crowd of families of all ages eager to experience the richness of local cultural traditions. The festival offered a diverse program of music, food, interactive activities and cultural performances. Among the highlights was a lively performance by our U3A English, Scottish and Welsh dance group.

A second Welcome Morning Tea was held this month for our newer members, and we are pleased to report that it was once again a very successful and well-attended event.
Just like a box of chocolates, this edition of Snippets has a bit of everything including a shout out to our intrepid volunteer gardeners; a spotlight on Winnie’s beautiful calligraphy; special insight into the rewards of croquet; an opportunity to take up tennis; the end of used stamp sales; Freaky Friday at The Round; volunteers wanted for dementia research; and a last call to enter a short story competition.
