There’s a lot happening at the moment. Planning for 2024 enrolment is underway as is planning for the 2024 Summer School. Both the Seniors and Spring Festivals, are nearly here where we will be involved in a number of activities. And with the end of Term 3 coming up, our Social Committee is offering another Coffee & Cake event to round off the term.
At our AGM on Wednesday 16 August , we farewelled five Committee members and welcomed five new members. The Special General Meeting preceding the AGM brought the constitution in line with 21st century thinking with all motions as detailed to members being passed unanimously.
A warm welcome to all members returning from the term break. I do hope that many of you were able to catch up with family and friends and enjoy your three-week break from U3A.
I am pleased to inform you that U3A Nunawading is again open to new members from the commencement of Term 3.
U3A are now able to use the large TV screens throughout the building to advertise upcoming functions or communicate important information to our ever-increasing membership.
Currently the screens are advertising our “Christmas in July” function on 4 July at the Mulgrave Country Club which the Social Committee is busy organising. As it is in term break I look forward to catching up with as many members as possible at this social function.

Term 1 has been very busy with the intake of a record number of new members, external meetings, and special celebrations at the Hub. Our home was festooned in purple, green and white decorations for International Women’s Day, members could be seen wearing a range of national costumes during Cultural Diversity Week and the area next to the community library played host to five combined lunches for our Reception Desk Volunteers. And, next week our Social Committee will be serving hot cross buns.
With classes back for Term 1, there is certainly a buzz around the place with new and returning members enjoying our huge range of fabulous classes.
Happy New Year to new and returning members. I hope you all had an enjoyable break and are keen to get back to classes when our first term begins on Monday 6 February.
What an exciting year we have witnessed at U3A Nunawading in 2022, the first without interruption from COVID-19 lockdowns for three years, and a year where we have seen continued growth in membership. During 2022, we have grown to over 2,200 members.
Congratulations to Vice President Valerie Donlon who was presented with her 2021 Council of The Ageing (COTA) Senior Achiever Award at the combined 2021 and 2022 Victorian Senior of the Year Awards Ceremony at Government House in late October. The 2021 awards ceremony was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.
