From the President

October is a busy month at the Hub

There’s lots happening at the Nunawading Community Hub this month with the launch of the Whitehorse Seniors Festival, which was hosted by U3A Nunawading on the first Sunday of the month and Council’s annual Spring Festival to be held on Sunday 23 October. Our Social Committee is also busy planning our upcoming Melbourne Cup Eve Afternoon Tea and last week members enjoyed another Coffee & Cake event at the Hub.

It’s a pleasure to socialise again

We ended Term 1 with Easter celebrations and the Social Club will be treating us to coffee and cake in the last week of this term. We’ve had a number of well-attended Four O’clock Forums and in the second week of the upcoming holidays members will enjoy our first ever Christmas in July lunch at the Hub.

Many of you have already bought your tickets for the Christmas in July lunch, which the Social Committee is hosting on Tuesday 5 July. Please ask at the reception desk for tickets – $40 each. Remember we don’t take cash. You can read more details about the lunch in the Social Committee’s article in this newsletter.

National Volunteer Week (NVW) is on 16 – 22 May 2022. The theme for National Volunteer Week 2022 is Better Together.

Many of you may have noticed groups of us enjoying a tasty lunch in the Hub foyer over the past couple of weeks. Duty Committee Members (Valerie, Frank, Colin, June, Gary, Athalie, Judith, Marlene, Terry and myself) were hosting our valued teams of Reception Desk Volunteers as a way of thanking them for the work they do for U3A Nunawading. The service they provide enables us to be far more responsive to our 2,000+ members than we could ever do without them.

None of this would be possible, of course, if we did not have Council monitors checking the vaccination status of everyone entering the Hub each day.
