The U3A Borrowing Library can be found near the Course Administration Office. Most of the books are fiction, but we have a small biography collection at the end of the fiction section. These books are marked with a ‘B’. If you find a book you wish to read then take it. You can return it when you finish or donate a suitable book in its place.
In 2024, three of our members took part in a project with the City of Whitehorse partnered with Celebrate Ageing Ltd, The Older Women’s Network NSW and Elder Rights Advocacy Victoria to raise awareness of the contributions and achievements of older women.
The aim of the project was to build respect and combat the inequalities older women experience and is part of the annual Older Women Count program launched for International Women’s Day each year.
As another exciting year begins at U3A, interesting topics in Snippets’ February edition include great savings for Aqualink membership and car hire; a callout for volunteers for medical research; and an offer to attend an informative dementia session.
We’ve had a very busy November with a successful enrolment, and special thank-you events for our Volunteers and Leaders. Welcome to our new members; we look forward to meeting you in 2025. We also have a special opportunity for our members to access discount car hire.
As we reach the end of another year, we look forward to 2025 and welcome new and returning members. Read the full article for the amazing job our enrolment team has done. We also express our gratitude to Class Leaders and note changes to car parking for the new year.
Most of our Summer School classes filled quickly and many have long waitlists. This has been a very positive response to our Summer School program and an indication that January 2025 will be a great start to another year at U3A Nunawading.
Mark your calendar – Make sure you mark your Summer School sessions on your calendar so you remember to attend. And if you find that you are unable to attend a Summer School session or excursion in which you have enrolled, please put in an apology. This gives us the chance to offer your place to someone on the waitlist.
The Spring Festival took place on 17 November as it was postponed from its usual October schedule to accommodate council elections. Despite the change in timing, the event was a success, brimming with vibrant performances and enthusiastic participation. See the photo gallery
The End-of-Year Concert was a wonderful showcase for the talented members of U3A Nunawading, some of whom were performing in public for the first time, and some of whom had years of experience behind them.
Class leaders encouraged audience participation and throughout the day the crowd tapped their feet, clapped their hands and joined in the dancing, creating a fabulous atmosphere in the room, often shouting encouragement during some of the livelier numbers.
Many of our members volunteer and help in many ways at U3A Nunawading. Members work in the community garden; organise the borrowing library; help with social activities and events; plan and organise Summer School; welcome new members and work on the Reception Desk; and Class Leaders volunteer their knowledge and skills to lead the classes that bring members back year after year.
Two special events were held last week to thank all these wonderful members.
On Sunday 10 November, an enthusiastic group of amateur geologists met at Chewton, ready to commence a three-day field trip of the gold fields, exploring the different methods of gold mining in this region.
