The 2026 year has commenced. Have there been a few challenges? Yes! But the enthusiasm that you have all brought with you in attending classes makes it all worthwhile.

We are still working with our Class Leaders to try to make sure you will all be placed in at least one class of your choice.

If you are looking to enrol in another class, check if the class is still taking enrolments or is closed. Some classes have been closed due to the waitlist being so large that you would never be accepted into the class in 2026.

Try looking for unrestricted parking on the green sections of nearby streets

Yes, we know car parks are hard to find! It would be great if there was unlimited parking in the Esdale St carpark but that is not the case. Please have patience, especially in the first weeks of Term 1. Patience and consideration makes everyone’s life easier.

2026 Summer School – a one-week wonder!

Gorgeous candles from the craft workshops

This year’s Summer School condensed 32 presentations, nine cooking classes, three external events, and three movie sessions into a single week instead of the two-week program offered in previous years.

A total of 22 guest speakers contributed to the program, including a retired detective, a fire safety officer, a cardiologist, a gut health professional, and specialists from the Commonwealth Bank and the health sector. Additional presenters covered topics ranging from happy and healthy exercise to artificial intelligence, online safety, and much more.

Class Leaders in the know

The Class Leaders’ briefing this year was quite a bit different – it included a practice evacuation!

A great turnout of around 180 Class Leaders filled Studios 1 and 2. After a few preliminaries, Course Administrator Ken Briscoe explained that while the membership system, UMAS, is still serving us well at present, we are planning to move to a new system – Member Wizard – on 1 July. This new system has been taken up by 23 Victorian U3As, supported by U3A Network Victoria, with another 30 U3As planning to convert this year – it’s best to keep with the strength.

New Member welcome

A Welcome Morning Tea was recently hosted for new members who joined at the end of 2025, and we’re delighted to report that it was a great success with a very strong turnout.

The new members enjoyed a friendly and relaxed atmosphere asking questions and engaging in conversation. Feedback on the day was very positive, with many expressing their appreciation for the warm welcome and the chance to meet others.
